My version of this was that Satan was trying to get me and to ‘rebuke him in Jesus’ name. God didn’t give us a spirit of fear. Now go to sleep.’ Totally agree with the OP, what were our parents thinking by telling us stuff like this? That just causes us to be more fearful and wary and prone to nightmares. Not cool mis padres.
